The Inria Saclay‑Île‑de‑France Research Centre seeks a PhD candidate for a three‑year fixed‑term position focused on visualizing the plausibility and bias of geographic data used in digital twins. The project, funded by the EDT initiative, combines interactive data visualization, artificial intelligence, and HCI to develop methods that automatically detect and quantify errors and biases in crowd‑sourced and heterogeneous spatial datasets. The researcher will conduct requirements analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation, producing prototype tools, scientific publications, and contributing to international collaborations. The role offers a monthly gross salary of 2,300 euros, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive research environment within Inria’s AVIZ team.

The PhD project investigates how to visualise and automatically assess the plausibility of crowd‑sourced and heterogeneous geographic data, identifying errors and biases using AI techniques. It aims to create prototypical visual analytics tools that quantify data quality within digital twins, covering remote sensing imagery, volunteered geographic information, and other 2D/3D spatial data. The work follows a typical HCI/visualisation pipeline of requirements analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation, and will result in scientific publications and contributions to the EDT project.
Well‑motivated students with a graduate degree or equivalent, a strong interest in interactive data visualization and analysis, good written and spoken English, and a background in artificial intelligence are encouraged to apply.
