About the Project

The DEEPISLANDS project focuses on analyzing climate change vulnerability in island ecosystems using high-resolution multiplatform remote sensing. The project employs multispectral, multitemporal, and multiresolution satellite, drone, and in-situ data to generate scientific products, map benthic habitats and coastal bathymetry, monitor vegetation, and develop climate indicators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and process satellite, drone, and in-situ remote sensing data, applying radiometric, atmospheric, and reflectance corrections.
  • Implement physical models and machine learning/deep learning algorithms to estimate coastal bathymetric maps.
  • Develop AI and image processing techniques to classify benthic habitats and seabed types.
  • Process multiresolution imagery using ML/DL models to identify plant species and monitor phenology.
  • Program multitemporal algorithms to detect environmental alterations and calculate spatiotemporal correlations for climate indicators.
  • Develop and maintain the project's GeoViewer web interface, support field data collection, and assist with deliverables and reports.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB and remote sensing software such as ArcGIS, ENVI, QGIS, or Lidar360.
  • Practical background in digital processing of multispectral and hyperspectral imagery in terrestrial and marine-coastal environments.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and validating deep learning models for remote sensing, supported by scientific publications in JCR-indexed journals.
  • Excellent command of English.

Who Should Apply

Candidates holding a Master's degree (MECES 3) in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Remote Sensing, Earth Observation, or Climate Change with expertise in Python/MATLAB, remote sensing tools, deep learning applications, and peer-reviewed publication history in JCR-indexed journals should apply.

Benefits

  • Full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:30).

About the Employer
