About the Project

The project aims to advance spintronic computing by developing reliable AMR, GMR, and TMR devices, investigating thermal fluctuations and stochastic switching in magnetic tunnel junctions, and exploiting these phenomena for energy‑efficient true random number generators and stochastic neural accelerators. The work combines atomistic and micromagnetic simulations, device fabrication, electrical and magnetic measurements, and integration of spintronic components into advanced computing systems, while linking the research to the Danish Chips Competence Center and European semiconductor pilot lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform atomistic and micromagnetic simulations of s‑MTJ structures and magnetization dynamics for TRNG and SNA applications
  • Contribute to electrical, magnetic and transport characterization of fabricated AMR, GMR and TMR devices
  • Correlate experimental results with modelling and simulation
  • Support connections between the Danish ecosystem and EU pilot lines
  • Assist in preparing and writing research proposals and funding applications

Required Skills

  • Expertise in spintronics, magnetism, and magnetic device physics
  • Experience with physics‑based modelling and simulation of magnetic or spintronic devices
  • Familiarity with s‑MTJ devices, stochastic magnetization dynamics, or thermal switching
  • Ability to perform electrical and magnetic measurements and data analysis of spintronic devices
  • Experience with pilot‑line activities or technology transfer is advantageous
  • Strong research track record demonstrated through peer‑reviewed publications
  • Experience in writing research proposals or project plans
  • Excellent verbal and written English and ability to communicate technical results
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Who Should Apply

Early‑career researchers who earned a PhD in electronic engineering, physics, materials science or a related discipline within the past six years, and who have demonstrated expertise in spintronic device physics, modelling, simulation, and experimental characterization. Candidates with experience in stochastic magnetization dynamics, pilot‑line activities, and strong publication records, as well as good English communication and teamwork skills, are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

  • Stimulating research environment within SDU Microelectronics
  • Access to advanced facilities for device design, fabrication, and characterization
  • Opportunities to collaborate with Danish and European pilot‑line and semiconductor facilities
  • Open and collaborative research culture within the Faculty of Engineering and the Mads Clausen Institute
